ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

AGENDA: Energy security and development of renewable energy sources.

Distinguished delegates,
On behalf of the UN ECOSOC it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Moscow State University Model of the United Nations. It is a profound honor to serve as your President during these proceedings.
You have gathered here at a time when the international community is facing one of its most fundamental challenges. The agenda is more relevant than ever. We live in an era of paradoxes: while one part of the world suffers from a lack of access to basic energy, another part grapples with the consequences of energy dependency and the environmental damage caused by fossil fuels. Climate change, geopolitical instability and economic inequality are directly linked to how we produce and consume energy.
Your task in these sessions is not merely to reiterate the official positions of your countries. Your task is to think beyond them, to be creative and to find common ground. We expect from you not just resolutions, but well-developed solutions. Remember that the words you speak here and the compromises you forge are a reflection of the decisions that must be made at the highest level.
I excitedly anticipate the beginning of our debates and wish each of you success.
Best regards,
UN ECOSOC President,
Proshina Polina

Dear delegates,
On behalf of the UN ECOSOC, I am delighted to welcome you to the Model United Nations at Moscow State University. Our committee's agenda is one of the most pressing and significant issues in contemporary international law: energy security and the development of renewable energy sources. Our work requires a deep understanding of the foundations of international law, the principles of statehood and sovereignty, as well as bold and balanced decisions that contribute to strengthening peace and security.
I call on you to engage in constructive cooperation, respect for opinions and honest discussion so that together we can develop recommendations that reflect justice and the rule of law.
See you at Lomonosov Moscow State University for the 2026 Model UN.
Yours sincerely,
Vice-president of the ECOSOC
Azizov Djamal

Distinguished Delegates,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you as participants of the MSU Model United Nations in ECOSOC committee. This year, our discussions will focus on one of the most pressing global challenges — ‘Energy Security and the Development of Renewable Energy Sources.’
Energy security is directly linked to sustainable development, international stability, and the future of national economies. The transition towards renewable energy opens new opportunities for international cooperation, while at the same time posing serious challenges related to financing, technology transfer, and bridging the gap in global energy access.
We are about to embark on an engaging journey: analyzing national positions, seeking a balance of interests, and putting forward solutions that could resonate with real-world international agendas. Try to make the most of this experience. Enjoy every moment of the model!
I am looking forward to our sessions!
Warm Regards,
UN ECOSOC Expert
Felix Belkin
