International Atomic Energy Agency
Agenda: The establishment of a nuclear weapon-free zone in the Middle East (EN)
Honorable Delegates,
My name is Malkhas Malkhasian. I sincerely welcome you to the Moscow State University Model United Nations 2025 on behalf of the President of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The agenda of our committee is of strategic importance for the following reason. Nuclear energy is crucial today as it offers a low-carbon, reliable source of electricity, playing a key role in combating climate change while enhancing energy security. Yet, the Middle East not only risks forfeiting the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy under the auspices of our organization, but also threatens to trigger major humanitarian disasters, extend its conflicts to other regions, and undermine global interest in atomic energy should nuclear weapons be employed.
Therefore, participation in the work of our committee will help you both hone your knowledge in the emphasized areas of world politics, and improve your diplomatic skills in public speaking, brainstorming, and networking.
I expect a high level of preparation from you, thorough engagement with the topic, and, most importantly, enthusiasm in finding compromise solutions to break the ice and take the next step, no matter how small.
In turn, our team will create a comfortable and productive atmosphere during the cessions, ensuring that you leave with warm memories and new friendships.
See you soon at the IAEA!
President of IAEA,
Malkhas Malkhasian

This forum offers you the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of global diplomats, where your ideas, perspectives, and strategies can shape the future of nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation.The discussions ahead may be complex and the stakes high, but with your collective passion and intellect, I have no doubt that this assembly will generate innovative and impactful resolution.
Warm regards,
Kharyushin Evgeny
